Mission Studio's EDI Commitments
At Mission Studio, we strive to build a culture and build ventures that reflect the diverse society we live in.
To ensure we translate our values into action, we have established a set of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) commitments to guide our work. That means holding ourselves accountable in who we choose to partner with as founders, how we build our own team, and the mark our ventures leave on society.
1. Expand representation and opportunities for founders from minoritised backgrounds
Our aspiration is for all founding teams to include at least one individual with one or more priority characteristics.
- We anticipate founding teams to be made up of 1-3 founders / co-founders, averaging ~2
- Priority characteristics that we focus on are gender, minoritised ethnic groups and socioeconomic background
- We view this as a baseline commitment, and will aim to go over and above it
- From application to interview to offer, we will ensure the right support structures are in place to ensure all potential founders thrive
2. Achieve best in class diversity within the Mission Studio operating team
Our goal is that the Mission Studio staff profile, as it grows in size, will, at a minimum, be representative of the UK on the following characteristics: ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and gender.
3. Ensure our ventures do not widen inequalities
Our commitment is that any ventures that we build will, at a minimum, not widen inequalities in society.
- Ideally, we want to go above this commitment - with our ventures having outsized positive impact on one or more minoritised groups - and we will ensure this is considered at a venture-by-venture level during venture design
4. Encourage and maintain an inclusive culture and EDI best practice in Mission Studio's team and in the ventures we build
Our commitment is that all Mission Studio team members will uphold our cultural principles and other relevant EDI policies - and embrace our cultural principle of "be kind" in our day-to-day. Additionally, all ventures we build will have access to our cultural principles, EDI toolkit and additional support to help them to build inclusive working environments as they grow.
- As well as sharing relevant documents, we will run ad hoc workshops to support ventures on specific EDI questions - e.g. inclusive recruitment
- We will also work to provide the right type of support to ensure the Studio team and Founders thrive and are supported from an EDI perspective in their day-to-day jobs
